During the British Raj, the Indian summers would get unbearably warm for the East India Company’s officers and administrators. Many of the hills offered wonderful weather in those months when the plains were sizzling, and slowly, these small hill towns gained importance.

These hill stations still have immense colonial charm, with grand town halls and churches, and service in hotels that recalls the colour and tradition of the Raj.
