Dolaguri is a tea estate in Assam, not far from the Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary. Rows of up to 2- metre tall bushes with green leaves follow the contours of the rolling hills. At harvest time, women with wicker baskets strapped to their heads wind their way through the bushes and pluck the leaves.

Originally a local tribal drink, the expansion of tea production occurred under commercial management by the British almost a century ago. India is the world’s largest producer of tea and Assam produces 60% of this total. Half of Assam’s produce is exported.
