Sivasagar
← BackThe ruins of the capital of the Ahom kingdom are scattered in and around the town. The most well known is the compound in the centre of town between the market and the huge tank, which has a large Shiva Temple which is still an important place of worship, as well as 2 other temples. The next most important are found around Rangpur, just a couple of kilometers from the town. Talatal Ghar (Palace) is the biggest, Joysagar (Temple) the best preserved, and Rang Gar (Pleasure Palace) the most elaborate. The Shiva Temple complex has free entry, but the other monuments all have a separate Rs100 entry fee for foreigners - there is no combined ticket. It is unlikely that anyone would want to visit all of the ruins, but it is worth a short stop on the way from Jorhat to Dibrugarh.
