State Museum
Patna is not over endowed with tourist attractions, and the traffic conditions can be challenging, but the following places of interest are all located close to each other around the "Maidan" at the centre of the city, close to the hotels, and can be easily seen during a half day sightseeing tour of the city.The Museum is located in an impressive colonial era building, and is one of the most important in India, containing as it does important finds from sites throughout Northern India, with a particular focus on relics from the many sites associated with the life of Lord Buddha.
Golghar is a curious looking dome shaped structure, built as a grain store in the 18th century. Steps lead to the top, from where there are excellent views over the city, and the River Ganges.
Mahatma Gandhi visited Patna on many occasions during his lifetime, and there is an attractive small museum which recounts the story of his life, and his role in the Independence campaign which led to the formation of India.
