An ancient fortified city, rich in myth and legend, Junagadh lies at the foot of the Girnar Hills and takes it’s name from the ‘Old Fort’ which circles the medieval town. The Girnar Hills are said to date back to 2500 B.C., having a legend of their own. Though mostly of interest as a departure point for the Gir sanctuary it has a fort and some Ashokan edicts dating back to 250 B.C.
