This wildlife sanctuary is situated on the coast of Orissa north of Puri and Konarak. It shelters a large array of wildlife in its 65000 hectares of mangrove forests. You can explore the mangroves of Bhitarkanika by boat in search of crocodiles, water monitors and cobra.

Bhitarkanika is the base of some intensive research teams studying the unique ecology of the mangroves and the Olive Ridley Turtles who visit annually for laying eggs in the nearby Gahir Matha Sanctuary.
