Itinerary

Day 1, ORCHHA

Today you travel by Shatabdi Express train from Agra to Jhansi. On arrival in Jhansi you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Orchha.

In the afternoon you have time to explore Orchha, the former capital of the Bundela dynasty who left a legacy of magnificent monuments. It is a treasure trove of palaces, temples and royal cenotaphs built in the Hindu-Islamic style. Three main palaces are enclosed in Orchha’s fortified walls. The Jahangir Mahal is the largest and most impressive, and its upper levels offer some arresting panoramic views.

Vultures now have sole possession of the palaces and yet they seem fitting owners of these dramatic, abandoned buildings. Arches, carved brackets, glittering blue tiles brighten the buildings’ yellow facades. It is now a peaceful and easy going place - prefect for relaxation and independent exploration of the scattered ruins.

Day 2, KHAJURAHO

Today you drive from Orchha to Khajuraho, a tiny village in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Khajuraho is world renowned for the intricately carved temples where sculptures celebrate the joy of life and love for which there is probably no equivalent in the world. Stone figures of celestial maidens appear on every temple. In between are erotic figures running through a whole Kamasutra of positions and possibilities whereby little is left to imagination. You will visit the Khajuraho temples on a guided afternoon tour.

Day 5, ONWARDS FROM KHAJURAHO

Your tour ends in Khajuraho after breakfast. From here you can either take a flight to Varanasi or drive further into Madhya Pradesh to visit the wildlife parks of Bandhavgarh & Kanha
